Nick’s Original House of Pancakes Menu

The best corned beef hash I've had in the Ann Arbor area. Their corned beef seemed to be legit and not out-of-a-can microwaved type of deal. I ordered a side of it and it was a nice portion. Only slight downside to it was that the sides were slightly burnt, but that's okay. My main dish was the country fried steak. Eh, it's no good and kind of small. Next time I would just go for the corned beef hash as my main and call it a day. One bonus about this place is that they do over-medium eggs perfectly! I think Nick's has topped Angelo's as my favorite breakfast place in town. Thanks, corned beef hash.

We wanted some breakfast and headed to Nicks for our first ever visit. The place was packed, a good sign. We checked in and added our names to the list. Told it would be 15 minutes till be were seated and another 35 until we could expect food. We accepted. Seated inside 20 minutes. The menu looked good. Our table got a custom omelette, eggs and sausage, and the Apple cinnamon stuffed French toast. We waited over 45 minutes for our food and watched others seated after us served before us. Very frustrating. I asked our server and after another 5 minutes we received our meal. Looked and smelled great. But the eggs were overcooked and the omelette cold. You can not justify serving cold food after a 50 minute wait! That being said, the French toast was hot and amazing!! I would be willing to try again on a weekday perhaps, the French toast was worth it.

I give 3.5 stars for food, and 4 stars for service. It's an insanely busy place, so don't go here really really hungry for brunch. It's just not happening. Not a lot of spaces to wait, but I recommend near a door, so you can squeeze in and look polite as you open it for others at the same time. I really like all their options! I got the chicken fried steak, and my boyfriend got stuffed french toast. I'm a huge fan of chicken fried steak and Nick's was no exception. Perfectly fried, and nommy gravy. There was an insane amount of hashbrowns which were good but needed more crispiness/salt (I'm clearly a home fries fan) and the eggs were doing their runny egg thing, which is great. Also comes with toast/english muffin like any decent breakfast place. My boyfriend was semi-pleased with his stuffed french toast. The filling was good, but the portion is small. He said he should have gotten Moosie's pancakes, which I totally agree with! The waitress forgot our bacon, so she gave us 2 side orders, no cost to us on either, which is very respectable. Water glasses remained full so no complaints here. Next time I'm coming during the week, and getting me some of those moosie pancakes.

Our coffe cups were never empty, the food was delicious and the service was friendly. The food was not greasy like a Coney Island. I also thought there were good options if you prefer to eat healthier.

Delicious! Biscuits and gravy were delicious but the 3+3 omelet was on point! Did I mention the perfectly buttered English muffins and never ending coffee?! Our tummies are full and happy. If you're in the area and in need of brunch (as we were) we would recommend this place for sure!

Pretty good. Had an Eggs Benedict special with corned beef. My wife's hippie something scramble was just OK. We were puzzled at the inability to get a pancake added to our order... the only option was to order a stack and basically double our order. Anyway, it's close to home so we will probably go back but we aren't busting the door down.

I took my son for a celebratory breakfast before the start of 7th grade. We rarely go out to breakfast, as we have that skill covered at home, but it was a fun change of pace. I was prepared for a wait after reading the reviews. Ours was only 15 minutes, and with nice weather outside, was pleasant. I did not order coffee (as many reviewers stated it to be bad) plus, I had already had my own pot of great coffee at home. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. My son ordered the peach cobbler french toast on the specials menu. I opted for the Hippie Skillet with the optional $2 raisin toast. My son loved his huge french toast and was barely able to finish it. I really enjoyed the skillet, which was a layer of hash browns with sauteed peppers, onions mushrooms and broccoli with feta topped with egg of your choice. I got scrambled, but would probably go with poached if I ordered this again. The toast was great too, but needed some cinnamon. Prices run about $9 per breakfast, without drinks or extras. With tip and beverage you can expect around $15 a person for breakfast here at Nick's.

The food was delicious! We ordered the peach cobbler French toast, the banana pecan pancakes, the egg and bacon sandwich, a side of hash browns, and turkey sausage. The French toast and pancakes were superb. The sandwich was put together well, though there is nothing about it that makes it stand out. The hash browns lacked seasoning, but they were cooked well (crispy on the outside and moist in the center). The sausage was a bit dry, but that's what you get when you order turkey. The staff was friendly, and although the line was long, we were seated quickly. We could hear the servers arguing with the kitchen staff about mixing up he orders, and though the food piled in the window, our meal came out in good time.

Yummy fluffy pancakes! I woke up craving some pancakes and I'm so glad I found this place on Yelp. Kind of hidden, but worth going around a couple of circles to find it. When we got in, we were seated right away and brought our menus. I got my coffee and decided which pancakes I was feeling, cinnamon apple, yum! They were perfect, light and fluffy, no need for butter or syrup. Although, I did try the syrup (warmed) and it was good! My sister ordered the Fat Cat skillet, good. We also ordered a side of corned beef hash, so good! I definitely recommend it. Not much to say about service, but they refilled my coffee often and they left me alone to enjoy my food. I'm sure their other menu items are good too, but the pancakes are great. I would love to come back before leaving MI and if not, I will be sure to come back next time!

Our absolute favorite breakfast spot! Staff is consistently friendly and attentive. Homemade pancakes are amazing. The sweet potato, turkey sausage skillet with an over easy egg on top is fantastic. And don't forget to add the raisin toast! Only wish they stayed open in the evenings.

Thank you Yelp for helping me score another wonderful meal. A friend and I came on a Saturday morning and had their chicken & waffle and fat Elvis. Both were great! The chicken was SO incredibly crispy, which was especially amazing because the outer later was thin and not plastered with batter. Seriously... it was glorious. I would have liked the waffle to be a little crispier, but considering how great the chicken turned out, I'll let it go. The fat Elvis is french toast stuffed with peanut butter, banana, and bacon. I liked the sweet and savory mix. =9 Like another reviewer mentioned, the service could be a little better. Our host tossed out menus on our table, then quickly walked away before we sat down. Awkward. But... for that chicken... I'll gladly come again.

Pancakes and a lot more. Light, fluffy, and great toppings. Skillets, and omelets are tasty. If you need a breakfast place in your portfolio this is a good one to tuck away in the back when all else fails. I don't really mean that in a bad way

  • Natalie T.

The food was phenomenal. I love breakfast foods and these hit the spot! I was taken aback a little for almost $9 pancakes but they were served on the biggest plate at Nick's and filled the whole plate! They were huge! 3 giant sized cakes and I was barely able to eat half! My mom ordered an omelet that did not disappoint with hash browns and cinnamon raisin toast. And what breakfast isn't complete without bacon? So we got a side! I think there was 4 slices of think cut. Everything was great! And they have cherry coke!!!

Good food poor service and not customer friendly. Waitresses have trended between rude and rushed over the past months. Silly policy of not seating until EVERYONE in your group is present. Even when they aren't over whelming busy. Probably our last visit. Not into supporting turn over and greed versus conscientious customer service.

    (1)
  • Lydia T.

Not very impressed with service. Food was average. Had to wait half hour for potato pancakes and 45 minutes for buttermilk pancakes! Seems strange since there are the pancake house?

    (3)
  • Melissa P.

Wait staff was excellent! The building was full with a steady stream of customers and food was coming out at a great pace. As for the food, the serving size was large and we'll worth the price. Everything we ordered was excellent and fixed as we ordered it.

  • Jenny R.

Good food at a decent price. I got the Athenanian Omelet and it was delicious and so were the hashbrowns that came with it. My kids split some of the Mickey Pancakes and I took a bite and the pancakes seem to be equally delicious. The coffee wasn't very good though, and the atmosphere wasn't anything special, but I definitely wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

Surprisingly good for a little dive that can be tricky to get to if you don't know the area. I used to drive past this place once a week on the way to a meet a girlfriend for coffee and it was on my radar since I love breakfast but Kris wasn't too interested. Thank goodness for Lisa M. who was game. We met here twice during the winter for breakfast and enjoyed it greatly. The coffee is superb and the menu has many options to satisfy any craving from savory to sweet. The food is served quickly and is always hot and tasty. My gripe with this place is the service. It's slow. Like too slow for a not very busy breakfast place (we usually go at an off time). In addition to the speed (lack thereof, really) of the service, the service is less than friendly. I always get the sense that the staff would rather be somewhere else, doing something else. Which makes me think some mornings when I'm craving breakfast that I'd rather eat somewhere else. If I happen to be on this side of town when the mood hits, I'm there, though, because it is pretty good. The speed greatly impacts the superbness of the coffee. This might be a good thing considering that I'd drink way more than I should were they quick on the refills. But alas, they are not quick on the refills. My advice is to make sure you have a little time - definitely not as quick as your usual breakfast experience.

Was a 4.5 and has fallen off to a 3.5 Nicks was our Family breakfast spot from the time they opened the location. It has changed over time. Not for the better. Portions are smaller Prices are higher Food has moved from excellent to good. I think there has been a change (or two) in the AM breakfast cooks. Great variety of pancakes, omelettes and skillets. Service can be a be a bit slow so if you are in a hurry select another place. All in all a good breakfast alternative. A Bob Evans is opening across the street. I don't think it will be much competition.

  • Jen Z.

I'm a fan of hearty breakfasts, and this place certainly delivers! The servers are friendly, and the kitchen seemed very clean and efficient. For breakfast places, I'm picky about hash browns, but theirs were perfectly done. Recommendations: Athenian omelette (yes, they use real, greek olives!) Dublin Bennies (eggs benedict with a huge portion of corned beef) Skillets (try any of them!) TIP: Very quick wait time, so don't worry if there are a lot of people waiting. TIP to the management: expand the bathrooms to have a second stall, please.

Nick's was on our radar for a while, but we never had the time to stop in until just the other week. A certain handsome gentleman by the same name LOVES pancakes, so we had give this place a shot. Service was good, no wait time on a Friday morning. Plus our coffee was regularly refilled, which is important when you drink as much as we do. I polished off a Creole-inspired skillet tried out the pancake special of the week. (I think it was lemon poppyseed or something similar.) You pay for your meal at the front register (took us a while to figure that out). We had the pleasure of speaking with someone (owner? manager?) about his dogs, whose photos were displayed by the register, as we paid.

  • Dan F.

Very good pancakes (multigrain with blueberries) but overpriced ($11 for 3 pancakes!). Corned beef hash was made in-house but nothing special. My partner had a tasty omelet. Server was very pleasant and helpful. Coffee was bad but she kindly didn't charge us for it when we didn't drink it and asked if they had any other kind (she had asked how everything was). The menu says pancakes are served with "maple syrup" but it's really corn syrup with brown coloring and artificial maple flavor. I told Nick that the menu was misleading and my meal was ruined by terrible syrup. He simply said that he used to serve real maple syrup but nobody seemed to care so he switched to cheap syrup. He said he'll change the menu the next time he prints new ones but won't do anything differently until then. If you like fake "maple" syrup, go to Nick's for good, expensive pancakes. If you like maple syrup on pancakes go somewhere else

Stumbled upon this place after staying at a nearby hotel last weekend and I was very happy with the end result! The service is really lacking a personal touch which is why my rating was 4 stars but the staff moves quickly and doesn't leave you waiting for long. I ordered the Fat Elvis and it was absolutely delicious! French toast stuffed with bananas, bacon and peanut butter. Now that's my idea of breakfast! My boyfriend ordered the lemon poppyseed pancakes which were a weekly special item and they were not only delicious but also HUGE! Heads up if you're ordering pancakes, the smaller order is most likely your best bet because the pancakes were the size of my head!

Well, this place has certainly taken a dive. When they weren't very popular yet, food was great and service was timely. Yesterday we went in on a not-very-busy Sunday morning, and it was a cluster. Food was piling up in the kitchen window, but wasn't being served because the waitresses were busy. There were 2 hostesses stationed at the front door, but they only added people to the list, and didn't run any food or process any business. The owner stood at the counter socializing and taking payment, never running any food or checking on any of the seated customers. At no point did any of the non-waitstaff appear to notice that they were part of the reason the joint was so backed up. Once seated, we waited 15 minutes to even get an offer of coffee. The food was nothing special, and of course was warm but not hot, since it too had probably been sitting around a while. This has been going on for the past 12-18 months, so we hardly even try to come here anymore.

I had high expectations for Nicks! However I was let down! We ordered the pecan pancakes and for this to be a "house of pancakes" I was highly disappointed. They tasted bland no flavor or any type of sweetness. The syrup gave it flavor. Then to top it off they are high priced $7.69 for a short stack (2 Cakes)! I did give it 3 stars because it wasn't all bad I had the Sweetie Pie Skillet! Pretty tasty! Delicious turkey sausage cheese, scrambled eggs, and peppers with sweet potato tater tots! Won't be going back for pancakes, but maybe go for the skillet!!

Great place for upscale pancakes and skillets. What's an upscale pancake, you might ask. Fair enough. Nick's does a variety of pancakes, from standard buttermilk to banana pecan to really excellent potato pancakes. And of course there's the classic "Fat Elvis" which is really a variation on French Toast. If you're looking for a more traditional diner type breakfast, ignore the usual fried egg-hash brown-sausage options and go for a skillet instead. Greek Hippie and Sweetie Pie are the best. The one with sirloin on top is overkill. This place is always crowded on Saturday mornings (my usual time to go there), but it's worth the wait. The waitstaff work as a team, and service is quick, friendly and competent. The food is always consistently really good, the coffee mugs are never empty, the staff is friendly. It might be a little pricey for breakfast for a large family, but if you're looking for a step up from IHOP* then Nick's is the place to go. ----------------- *Which I also like, by the way. It's pancakes, so how can you go wrong?

What a great place for casual brunch! Great food, reasonable price. I absolutely love their skillets. I've tried them all and love trying their special skillets as well. My husband usually goes for their pancakes which are absolutely huge, soft, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth incredible. The hashbrowns here are excellent (I love how crispy they are!) Service is attentive and quick. If you're coming in the late morning for brunch on Saturday or Sunday, prepare to wait 20-30 minutes.

  • Carol G.

Love everything about this breakfast/lunch place. Great food, service, and family-friendly. Servers are always smiling and they keep our drinks refilled. Skillets, omelettes, and Monte Cristo sandwich are yummy. Pancakes are fluffy and perfect. Fries are crispy and hot. Tasty coleslaw. A minor and unusual thing that I really appreciate are the kids cups. They use regular sturdy plastic cups like the adults beverage cups, re-washable and re-usable. Being a dutiful eco-minded Ann Arborite, I appreciate that Nick's doesn't use the flimsy disposable cups for the kids. There is a wait on the weekends, so if you come during prime lunch hour be prepared to wait.

Came here yesterday as I was craving biscuits and gravy. The location of the restaurant was convenient, right off off of Ann Arbor-Saline Road. Close to I-94, Briarwood Mall, etc..... For the life of me, I couldn't recall what this restaurant was before it becames Nick's. I finally recalled that it had been a Big Boy when I went into the restroom and saw a sign on the mirrors that said "Big Boy employees must wash hands...." On to the food.... the biscuits and gravy came in a large crock of gravy which was nicely spiced. The two biscuits were fresh and tasty. There was so much food, I couldn't eat it all. The restaurant had a nice selection of eggs, pancakes, french toast as well as sandwiches and soups. Be aware... This place appears to be THE place to go on that side of town after church. It was getting pretty packed after I left at about 9:30. On to the service.. Bad. Really bad. The waitress appeared mad that I was by myself. When I went to pay my check, the young lady never addressed me, never said thank you, pretty much seemed anoyed that I bothered her when she was havng a conversation with her co-worker. I don't think I would come back.

Over-rated and under-whelming. Week-day morning, about 8:30 a.m., about half the tables full. We had a plain waffle and some raisin toast. Toast was burned on one side and un-toasted on the other. Coffee was extremely weak and barely warm. Asked for some hot and the waitress took my cup, took someone's money, seated two tables, and stopped at another table before she brought my cup back. This was hot but she didn't offer to refill my husband's empty cup. He finally caught her eye and she took his cup and went through the same routine again, sat people, stopped at another table, took money and finally brought the cup back. Apparently they don't bring a pot around to the tables - we never saw a pot except at the coffeemaker. Still very weak. Completely tasteless. Room was extremely cold and very noisy with loud music. It was all just kind of strange.

Nick's has been my go-to for breakfast out, or a place to bring out-of-towners when they come to visit. I have never had a bad meal or experience at breakfast. The waitresses are friendly and efficient, my coffee never goes cold, and my order is always correct. They have a great kids menu and while this place isn't overrun with children, they don't treat my kids like they're not welcome either. Overall, Nick's had delicious food, decent coffee, and a great waitstaff, what's not to like?

If you love breakfast food this place is for you. Their egg skillets are so awesome and the pancakes were really tasty as well. Great place for breakfast on a Sunday. You can expect to wait though.

  • Shama V.

This is probably posted under "not recommended" reviews by yelp since all the recommended ones are positive somehow... 45 min wait for food, no acknowledgement that we were waiting forever. Disappointing simply because I've been here before and loved it. This time I brought 6 people that have never been here before and the service was just terrible. I asked the hostess to check on our food and saw her talking to someone and kept pointing to our table but we still waited another 20 min. Still no acknowledgement from anyone about our food. The only time we got remotely normal service was we were leaving (and paying). All I got for my complaints was a half - hearted apology.

Actually, I don't know why more people aren't raving about this place. As a student I have spent a fair amount of time at breakfast and brunch establishments like Angelos, Savas, and most of the main street brunch venues. This place was just as affordable as other AA classics, the wait was comparable for an 11am meal, and the food was amazing. What blew me away was that our waitress was so attentive and cheerful despite being bombarded by a couple of huge tables in addition to the normal lunch crowds. My food was delivered promptly and correctly, my coffee was always full, and our waitress took the time to be friendly rather than breezing by and trying to get us out. I had an egg white omelet and hash browns. The omelet was humungous and it was cooked really well. They didn't skimp on the vegetables and feta. My boyfriend had chocolate chip pancakes which he could barely finish, and they heaped the whipped cream on per his request. Overall it was just a great breakfast experience and I will definitely be making this one of my regular Sunday stops.

ALWAYS friendly! ALWAYS fast! I have a toddler and an infant and they always make a point to talk to my son and make sure our order gets out quickly! We love it so much my 3 year old wants to go to "the panicake store" every other day! We settle for every Sunday. Even though they are always busy, they move very quickly and you don't wait any longer than normal.

Delicious breakfast. I had classic eggs Benedict and my toddler had blueberry Mickey Mouse pancakes. We are very happy with both our service and our breakfast.

You have to appreciate Nick's for the sheer size and ingenuity of their breakfast menu. Not only will you find the regulars (ALL of the regulars), but you'll also find interesting specials, novel combinations, and other ethnic flavors creeping in (mostly Mexican). For instance, a recent special was a skillet that included sweet potato tater tots with turkey sausage and eggs. Another delicious one was a breakfast quesadilla with eggs, chorizo, cheese and diced veggies. The pancakes are great. The service is friendly and fast, and even when there's a line out the door, you'll still be assured of coffee in twenty minutes! (Not by them, by me - I've never waited longer than about 15, and it was slammed.) This is the kind of place where you'll find families, sleepy-eyed college kids, sports teams, you name it. But they move everyone through quickly and happily. Things I like less about Nicks: personally, I don't love to go out for food that I wouldn't buy and eat myself at home. I dislike margarine and fake maple syrup, and Nick's serves both. But the quality of everything else has been good.

I love Nick's! It is always a treat to come have breakfast here. I recently had the sweet Georgia Brown skillet. It was fabulous and a unusual combination of flavored that paired well. You won't regret stopping here....bring your appetite though!

  • John F.

Would have like to give Nick's a higher rating. Can't do it though. Had our first breakfast there today. Let's start with the important stuff. The diet coke was solid and the service was good as well. For a place with pancakes in the name, I thought they would be much better. The bacon and eggs were fine and the toast as well. The pancakes were giant in size but the taste didn't follow. We ended up leaving a bunch of food on the table and then the bill was a little bit higher then I would have expected. I am normally not one to notice but in this case it was a big one. Sorry Nick's wanted to like you so much more but don't think we'll be back any time soon.

Nick's is a very popular one-of-a-kind oasis in a sea of breakfast chains in this town. Created from the bones of a defunct Big Boy restaurant two years ago, Nick, the omnipresent owner behind the register, produces imaginative and tasty breakfast fare with flare! Try the "So Cal" Omelette for a veggie-filled treat topped with fresh avacado and sour cream. You will think you can hear the waves of Malibu while sipping a hot cup of Joe. The cakes are wonderful too! The wait staff is always friendly and aims to please. Better get here early on a Sat. or Sunday. You will be looking at a 30 min. wait for a table anytime after 9:00 am....and you will probably have to park in the Valvoline oil change shop next door. This place is very popular with a food-savy A2 crowd for good reason....it has great breakfasts.

Pancakes are thick, cakey and good and omelette was decent, but the service is terrible. The server came to our table maybe once the entire time we were there. We kept having to flag down other servers walking past our table. I might give it another try but probably pick up the order to take home.

  • Mimi T.

This place is packed on weekends. The parking is something straight out of the hunger games (get it? hunger?) Honestly, we didn't wait that long compared to what people have written in past reviews. Maybe 15-20 min? We were seated in a booth in the back. The food came out pretty quickly and was standard diner food (which I happen to love). I did try their 'famous' pancakes and it was pretty darn good. If your'e looking for a breakfast/brunch diner fix and don't mind a parking lot stand off then try Nick's. There are other places downtown that I prefer but when I'm looking for something different I'll go back.

I would actually choose zero stars because I never had the opportunity to order my food and the service was terrible. As a U of M student I was really excited to try a good breakfast spot, but I couldn't even get any food. The servers never checked on our table and we were there for forty minutes. If you want good breakfast and service, try Benny's.

Nick's is a converted Big Boy, but don't let that fool you. I've been here a few times and finally got around to writing a review. Pancake portions are huge. They are fresh, and inventive. They have everything from healthy, granola whole grain, to stuffed fatty goodness. My Dad considers himself a pancake connoiseur, and he loved the banana pecan cakes, but especially loved that they warm the syrup before bringing it to us (not on the table Rain Man style). They had so many good things on the menu it was difficult to choose, but I went with eggs and turkey sausage. They turkey sausage had quite a kick to it, kind of spicy. My aunt who eats like a bird was filled up on 1/2 of a 1 pancake order. They have huge waffles, skillets, just everything is oversized. Our service was awesome, attentive, and friendly even though it was packed. The location is a little off AA Saline rd, down Lohr, so you may feel like you are going down a service drive, but you aren't. You are driving yourself to goodness.

I go to Nick's once a week. I love it. The waitresses are friendly and the food is fantastic. I would recommend the banana pecan pancakes, chicken fried steak, Dublin bennies, or Bad Voodoo skillet. It's usually pretty packed if you go earlier on the weekends, but during the week or closer to 3 it gets quieter. I will occasionally get a sub-par meal: cold or overcooked, but generally the food is fantastic. This is absolutely my favorite breakfast place in Ann Arbor.

  • Shannon B.

Parking lot was full to capacity. Waited a while for a table. Waitress couldn't/wouldn't sell us an a la carte pancake for our toddler and suggested that we order him a full kids' breakfast. So, little one shared with us instead. Our food was just ok. I ordered a scramble and kept encountering something spicy that shouldn't have been in the dish (Sriracha?). Benedict my husband ordered was nothing special. Would rather spend the extra few bucks to have a nice breakfast at Zingermans Roadhouse or Weber's Inn.

Great place for breakfast n my fav!! They serve the best veggie skillet in Ann Arbor. Nothing beats their skillet. We always order that whenever we go for breakfast here. Their buttermilk pancakes are just as yummy. The service is great and we are such a known face here that the server knows what we always order!! Friendly people and the owner of the place is a great guy. Highly recommend this place. Don't have anything bad to say about this place. But if you plan to go bet 10:30 am - 11:30am on weekends , it's very very busy. So plan ahead and enjoy a delicious hot breakfast at the very best - NICKS!!

Solid breakfast joint. Super friendly owner and staff. They have a variety of breakfast and lunch menu options, so just about anyone can find something that interests them. I have an 85 year old aunt that is incredibly picky and this is our go-to breakfast place whenever we go out. You can't beat the prices, either!

Pulled in here after taking a wrong turn trying to get to McDonald's for breakfast. I had no clue there was a pancake house here, so I decided to try it out. McMuffins will have to wait. The place was pretty crowded, but my boyfriend and I got a table within a few minutes. Service was reasonable given how packed it was, and everyone seemed friendly, though not very personable. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt, though, and assuming it's just because they were rushed. I got the 3+3 omelet, which will probably kill me, but it was delicious. The serving of hashbrowns was huge, but they could have been better. I like my hashbrowns crispy, and these were pretty soft. My boyfriend got the roadrunner omelet, which was a special, and he liked it a lot too. I even ate all the toast, which I rarely do at a breakfast restaurant. The prices were reasonable for Ann Arbor, meaning I'd still prefer to pay less, but I've seen far worse. Overall, I had a good experience at Nick's. Service was fine, and while the food wasn't the best I've had, it's definitely worth coming back for!

We go here frequently and are always met with an incredibly friendly staff. The pancakes are the best we have found in AA with a variety of options jammed into the generously sized flapjacks. If you are a fan of ham, you will get a big thick slice of Dearborn ham... Not a slice of Oscar Meyer thrown on the grill and burned. Definitely worth a morning visit when you are hungry for traditional pancake house fare.

We've definitely discovered our hangover breakfast joint, as well as a great place for brunch anytime. Now that the man friend and I have sampled around the menu, I can attest that what we've tried so far is tasty and that the pancakes are the standout for sure. Today we had the pecan and banana pancakes and they WERE so damn delicious I want to have them again for breakfast tomorrow. Lucky for me, the portions are BIG and my leftovers mean I actually will have them again bright and early tomorrow. If I don't eat them tonight. Get there early or expect to wait a bit on the weekends.

I was looking for a good spot for breakfast between my husband's doctor's appointment this morning and was really pleasantly surprised with Nick's. My husband ordered french toast and I had the Athenian Omelette. Wow. That could have gone a ton of different ways so I am glad it went the right one. The food tasted great, freshly cooked, well prepared, just well done in general. Don't get me wrong this is a diner for sure, but it's the kind of diner you want to be eating at. The kind of diner that's worth a few extra miles for a good old fashioned breakfast. Service was good and it seemed clean inside, I'd definitely recommend it.

I was disappointed with my Caramel Apple French Toast. The menu described Granny Smith apples infused in the toast, but I couldn't taste any. They either made a mistake or the recipe needs work. For the price I also anticipated a side, but it did not come with one. The service and drinks were both good, however. My fiancé's omelette looked great and the portion was large. I may have just picked the wrong thing on the menu. Overall, I would give Nick's another chance. Hard to see it being my "go to" breakfast option though; there is better value elsewhere.

I love Nick's. We eat here regularly, and the waitstaff is friendly as hell, and a couple of them even remember us from week to week - not an easy task when you consider the sheer number of people who eat there every weekend. The best thing here though, even better than the staff, is the corned beef hash. OHMYGODTHECORNEDBEEFHASHISSOGOOD! It's not like the canned cat food that most places serve. This CBH is hot, and perfect, and moist, and you can see actual pieces of beef, and it is the best thing ever. EVER! Seriously, I'm sure they have other food, and I think I used to order it. I remember it being pretty good, too. I've tried to talk myself into getting something else - maybe biscuits & gravy - but ever since I tasted this awesome pile of pink & white deliciousness, I've been unable to persuade my stomach to allow deviation. It's that good.

Well - reviewing this establishment is interesting since they are an assortment of highs and lows, but overall not really good. Went here late this morning because Zola's as always had a wait lining up outside the door (and as ever parking in AA is a major pain in the butt), Northside Grill likewise (never been there, was willing to risk - but it looks scuzzy from the outside any way), Cafe Marie is on Uranus (see my review), refuse to pay Zingermann's prices for what they offer (you're kidding me guys), the nearest IHOP is 22 miles away - we decided to drive over and experience Nick's Pancakes. IF ONLY they had the same quality as the REAL Original House of Pancakes then I would be there every weekend. OK Here goes: Service 3 stars Greeted at the door, smile friendly, straight to a table (very busy but got a free table immediately) and young lady came by offering coffee (mediocre) and tea (good) very quickly. When she came back my wife ordered bacon waffle and I the pecan waffle with fresh banana. Would have been 4-5 stars had the manager at the cash register bothered to ask if everything was to our satisfaction (he's smart maybe and knows better). Ambience/cleanliness 2 stars Busy, a little noisy bit overall 3 stars. Dinged a star because - come on guys - if you use white mugs for coffee - please make an effort to wash off the lipstick from the last client to use it!!! Yuk - tip: When dining here hold you mug so that you can drink 180 degrees from the handle Food 2 stars They basically make pancakes and waffles, how difficult is that? It could be good BUT unfortunately the taste fairy has been unkind to Nick. Not as bad as she has been to Denny's where she simply removed ALL the taste - and we will NEVER go there again, but she just left enough flavor to make everything BLAND - not tasteless like Denny's but BLAND AS HELL. The coffee, the waffles and I saw a woman on the next table pouring SO MUCH salt on her scrambled eggs with whatever that that was clearly equally bland. TIP FOR THE MANAGER if he is interested. Charge an extra buck a plate (you will still be under Zola and the like by far) and get better quality ingredients. Make it taste man. Then how about being a little creative and give us something special like Richard Walkers german pancake, or the real Original Pancake House's dutch baby. TIP for IHOP. Build a franchise in AA, you will make a killing

Great service and the skillet was amazing. The staff is very attentive and asked if we needed a coffee warmup often. Very reasonable price for breakfast as well. Clean bathrooms are a must these days and they lived up to my standards! Great place for a breakfast.

Wow, I'm surprised this place got so many bad reviews. I think the food was pretty good for the price. I've gotten their Mexican Skillet (I don't think that's the correct name...) and came with a side of toast. After taking a few bites of it, I was in food coma. My boyfriend got a different skillet that was topped off with gravy that was also scrumptious. We've gone back once and will definitely be coming back for sure. Nick's is definitely one of the better breakfast place.

Heard this was a great place for breakfast, so came in at 8:30 am this past Sunday morning. Was promptly and pleasantly greeted and seated. The coffee is excellent. I ordered the Farmer's Omelette and my partner ordered a wet burrito. It took FOREVER for our food to come out. People who were seated after us were halfway through or done with their meals by the time we got our food. After we had waited a good while the waitress said our food would be right out. 10-15 minutes later it finally arrived. We asked what took so long and all the waitress said was "I was waiting at the window for it". No apology, which was rather poor, we thought. My partner liked the burrito. My omelette was not very good. They mix the meat with the eggs, and put a miniscule amount of hashbrowns and cheese inside. It was overcooked and dry, and such a disappointment. I would have sent it back, but we had already been there over 45 minutes and just didn't want to wait any longer. The cooks need a tutorial on what an omelette actually is, and how to prepare it. The meal came to a total of $23. Not a good value for truly sub-standard meals. We're done.

Consistently a great place for breakfast... I've tried many menu items now and I've always been happy! It is also the only place in the area I've found where you can get Chicken and Waffles... So bonus points all around. Order your hash browns extra crispy, otherwise they come out a little undercooked (but every diner on earth has THAT problem).

Ordered breakfast: toast - burnt; "Over-Easy eggs - "Over Hard" yoke broken; Burnt hash browns. Waitperson literally threw out plates on the table and walked off - very surly. Expensive for the quality of food and service.

Nick's is our go-to place for breakfast. I think there are several places in Ann Arbor owned by members of the same family- Village Kitchen, Broken Egg, etc. Of these, Nick's is our favorite. Good food. Good coffee. Good service. And the restaurant is physically large enough that there generally isn't an annoyingly long wait on weekends. Try the Fat Elvis or the Country Bennies-- very tasty. Good basic breakfast- a cut above Coney Islands (and I like Coney Islands). Light on the pretense. Recommended. And- best of all... Nick's is consistently good.

Breakfast is my favorite meal, and Nick's is my favorite place to get breakfast in A2. The staff is great- I have never consistently had such nice, accommodating and competent waitresses anywhere. Plus, Nick is always there, which gives this place credibility points in my mind. The pancakes are reliably delicious- I am especially a fan of the banana pancakes. They also have some great skillets and my coffee mug never, ever is empty here. I honestly can't say enough good things about Nick's. It's not as fancy and pretentious as a lot of places in Ann Arbor (maybe that's because its located outside of downtown- which is slightly inconvenient for those of us who live downtown). My one wish is that their bacon was a little less fatty.

Wait, what? Heaven is found in between big box stores? Yes, Nick's Original House of Pancakes is tucked in between Best Buy, Linen N Things, and other big and boxy stores that can be avoided but the delicious breakfast food is unavoidable. And, NIck's *does* has the decor of a Denny's-like establishment. You might be tempted to whisper "I love you honeybunches" in an attempt to reenact the Amanda Plummer/Chris Roth sequence of "Pulp Fiction." So, the location and decor are not ideal. And like many reviews have stated, neither is the coffee. The food, however, is -- in culinary terms -- yum! A Fat Elvis Special with four pieces of French toast stuffed with peanut butter, bananas, and bacon? Or the chorizo omelette with onion, peppers, tomato, cheddar and egg? Or Eggs Florentine as a variation of Eggs Benedict with tomatoes and spinach? Yeah, I'm going back to Nick's. What's good: - ample parking - decent prices - great breakfast food What's "meh:" - the coffee - the decor - the location

We had driven past this restaurant many times, but since it closes so early there had never been a good time for us to visit. For my wife's birthday we wanted to go out for breakfast and decided to give Nick's a try rather than going across town to IHOP. Big mistake The parking lot was very full, but we were able to be seated immediately. It was a former Big Boy, and it looks like they made minimal changes to the interior. There is even an old freezer case they use to store T-shirts. Very trashy to have this as you enter the restaurant. Ten minutes after being seated our waitress finally graced us with her presence. She was very aloof and inattentive. I told her that we had never been there before and she pointed to menu and said something but it was so fast and unclear that I was more confused after she "explained". Then, every time she was at the table she did what she came to do and ran off before we could respond. For example, when she dropped off our food she set it down, said another component was on the way soon, and walked away rather than asking if there was anything else we needed. Then, when I finished my orange juice she took my cup and walked off without asking whether I wanted another. I ordered a make your own omelette with a "short stack" of 2 blueberry pancakes (for which I was charged $7.39) and my wife ordered the special pumpkin pancakes. My pancakes were so cold that they didn't melt my butter, and there were very few blueberries to be seen. I waved down the waitress and asked her if they could be reheated, and she simply responded with "oh, they're cold?" They microwaved them and brought them back. Unfortunately, they were also flavorless. I couldn't even add more blueberry flavor because they only had regular maple syrup. My wife's pumpkin pancakes were warm enough, but they were flavorless as well, so neither of us came close to finishing. Another waitress asked how we liked the pancakes and we told her. Rather than genuinely apologizing and offering solutions she just said "I'm sorry we couldn't make you happy" implying that we were the problem. When we were as finished as we were going to be, we went to the front to pay. It seems that we dealt with the owner at that point because his name was Nick Panos. I explained that I didn't eat my pancakes because they didn't have any flavor. He said "You didn't eat them, you must not have liked them, there's no reason for you to pay for them". He didn't ask any other questions, trying to find out how the staff responded or how the rest of the meal was. Before taking the cost of the pancakes the check was nearly $35. 2 people, typical breakfast, albeit very large quantities of excessively fried food, very pricey. It's a good thing this place is on the outskirts of Ann Arbor so as to avoid implications of positive association with Ann Arbor's traditionally high quality restaurant scene. Long story short, if you simply want a generous portion of greasy food and don't care about the about the quality of the food or the quality of service(represented by the quality of leadership) then this may just be the place for you. For us, we will not return.

I thought the breakfast here was pretty good! Went here on a packed Saturday morning and had to drive around awhile to find a parking spot but we got a table within a few minutes. The breakfast offerings here are pretty standard but the food was fresh and there was more coffee than you could ever drink being served up by the attentive wait staff. Overall, if the trendier or more popular places in town have lines out the door, Nick's is a good alternative.

I'm giving this place two starts... 1. The greeter needs to be replaced... she is not experienced... when she calls the person's name, she is too soft for anyone to hear, especially when you have 30+ people waiting around the door and all talking. 2. Waitstaff - they have like one waitstaff for 8 to 10 tables and like two floaters helping out... They rarely check upon the tables, only when they remember. I had to stop one of the floaters to get more coffee. They need to hire more people so customers are taken care of and served. 3. COFFEE - worse than Sanka (don't know what it is, google it!). They need to get new coffee. 4. Food... I got the farmers omelet, the food itself wasn't bad... for that price, I could have gone to Denny's and got it for cheaper. I also had lot of burnt hash browns on my plate and inside the omelet... I don't know if they were trying to cover it in the omelet or what, but I was taken back in finding the surprise inside. My TOAST was COLD! I think it was just sitting around until my food was ready. 5. They need to rename the restaurant from Nick's Original House of Pancakes to 'Slow's Original House of Pancakes'. The service is slow, food delivery is very slow as well. 6. The kitchen staff and speed at which foods are prepared and sent out needs to improved. They have been open for over a month now, so they should have worked out their issues by now. The quality of the food is okay... nothing to write home about... I could probably get a better pancake from McDonald's big breakfast for cheaper price! I waited 30 minutes to get a table, another 40 minutes to get the food. Overall, you will need a lot of time if you go here. It was Sunday, so this might be the reason why it was so busy, but still, the place needs to have better control from when the customers walks in to the time whey get seated to the pace it takes to get your food. Would I go back there again? This is tough call... I don't think you'll find me there again, but if they get their act together, maybe I'll give it a second chance.... but if you have not been there, give it a chance yourself and judge on your own.

The best breakfast spot AA has to offer. I'm not an AA foodie and fake Detroit wannabe. Rather a working man who eats to fuel my body. Living out here in this liberal hell hole with a bunch of trendies makes it hard go find a hearty meal, let alone breakfast. Nick's breakfast is expensive but fills you up. The omelletes are my favorites. You can always tell that Nick strives to feed the working men and families of Ann Arbor area. Thank you Nick for bringing a real establishment to this artsy fartsy Crepe and fondue eating community. Also try the Greek Hippie Hash! What an appropriate name in Ann Arbor.

Nothing really good here. Just some tasteless, over priced pancakes. I'd rather go to the Coney Island across the street.

I had to post a comment on this fabulous establishment just to counter the haters. The people that lower the ratings for such petty things as the wait are obviously oblivious to how you do a review. Numbskulls, the reason there is a line is because the food is great and they don't take reservations! People wouldn't wait 30 minutes for breakfast if it sucked. Plus who wants to make reservations for breakfast???? Nicks does a great job of making sure your whole party is present before they seat you so you don't have table hogs clogging up the flow. Do yourself a solid and treat yourself to a Fat Elvis or the corned beef hash. No matter how you like your eggs they are always done perfectly!

Nick's is my favorite breakfast spot in Ann Arbor. I like it because of the quality ingredients they use. The service is also very good. My favorite dish is Nick's own Fedouille scramble. If you appreciate quality ingredients and don't mind paying for them, you will like this place.

Solid, perpetually busy breakfast house. Three stars for the odd pancakes. I think I could taste too much baking powder, and friend deemed his heavy, not fluffy. I'd like to go back though for an omelette or chicken and waffles.

For my money, the best breakfast place in Ann Arbor. The scratch pancakes are delicious; the egg dishes are fresh and huge; the ham is the best i've had. Friendly and efficient staff. On weekends you may have to wait up to 20 minutes. This place is popular and for good reason.

Brought my parents here last weekend for some easy, regular old breakfast food. I was pleasantly surprised by Nick's: we didn't wait, even though it was a Sunday morning and the morning of the BigHouse BigHeart 5K (lots of hungry runners in town... I think we made it in right before they all finished and drove over!), and the menu's variety was pretty impressive. Lots to choose from, though it being fall and me loving pumpkin, the pumpkin pancakes were a no-brainer. And they were TASTY. A little crisp on the outside, nice and hot and soft on the inside. The side of turkey sausage patties I got was also completely delish, and a little spicy! A nice antidote to the sweet pancakes. Service was fine even though they were busy, and the food came out quicker than I would have expected. I'll definitely be back, as no-fuss breakfast is my favorite kind. There is a time and place for Zola's brunch, but sometimes you just want the basics!

  • Sebastian L.

The coffee is very bad. I'm not picky about coffee, but this stuff tasted like burnt paper. Since it's a breakfast joint, bad coffee is damning. The only other two bad points: the syrup was disgusting, again, an especially bad thing for a pancake restaurant, and we had to fight to get butter instead of margarine. Other than that, it was fine. Except for the coffee and syrup, the food was not bad and not outstanding. The people were nice, the place was clean, the wait time for seating and food was reasonable even though it was crowded. I would never go back, but I'll give it three stars because it's about the quality and price you should expect for a diner next to the highway. In time, as the place gets run down and dirtier, it would be an easy two stars. If they replaced the coffee and gave you butter without being asked, they'd be a solid three. One note--you get hash browns and toast with your omelette, even though the menu doesn't say so. The hash browns are decent, too, not the ez-shred kind. So that's a bonus.

  • Julie D.

I ordered eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast. Food was very good, a notch above a Coney Island. I really liked the homemade hashbrowns (no silly string here), the toast was also homemade wonderfully thick. Other patrons around me ordered the pancakes and they looked marvelous! I will probably go with pancakes next time! Coffee- c'mon guys- upgrade a bit here and I'll give you 5 stars! I went during a slow part of the day, and service was excellent.

I'm kicking Nick's House of Pancakes up a star. I finally went back, about 6 months after my most recent visit and was pretty happy. This time I got banana walnut pancakes and they were yummy. I appreciated having the option of getting a short stack... but really at a "house of pancakes" the pancakes should totally blow me away. I'm still not completely won over, but it's fair to say that this place is "fair" as opposed to horrible. One other improvement... this may seem minor, but I noticed that they had more jam flavors on the table. In previous experiences all that was left was like grape and mixed fruit... the argyle socks of the jam community (close friends of orange marmalade). When a place offers raspberry and/or strawberry... or (BONUS!) blackberry I am more easily won over. I think they had at least strawberry this time. But there are about 10 other places in Ann Arbor that are cheaper and have the same or better quality of breakfast food.

I'm REALLY holding back here... I'm trying to be fair to Nick and his "Original" House of Pancakes... I'm trying not to judge ol' Nick and his HOP for the mistakes of his line cook...or his waitress...or even the maitre d'. I'm trying NOT to refer to it as Dick's House of Shamcakes... I'm trying NOT to condemn Nick to the fate of this restaurant's "Original" owners... ...and I'm DEFINITELY trying NOT to draw some sort of acronymical correlation between Nick's Original House of Pancakes, a.k.a. NOHOP, and another terrible Ann Arbor establishment known as NoThai!. What I AM trying to do is accurately convey the sensation of half of an eggshell inside my brown polka-dotted Chicken Florentine omelet. At first I thought it was simply one of the crisped edges of my overcooked omele...errr, burnt egg flap. Still chewing, I began to wonder if this mysterious crunch was just...some crunchy cheese??? In my mind I was INSISTING that there was no WAY that this mouthful of mystery could be the better part of an egg's embryonic encapsulate, however in my mouth the evidence was too damning to ignore. Excusing myself to the restroom I deposited the rogue shell in what should have been its Original destination: la basura. Nick- I wish you luck during your 2nd month of operation...I mean, hey it can't get any worse!...errrr, can it??? The next time your kitchen staff drives your lunch service into the shitter (literally), stand tall and proud and proclaim "I am the proprieter of this FINE establishment" rather than hiding behind the breakfast bar throwing your waitstaff to the wolves...Because it's YOUR name on the sign, it's YOUR Original House of Pancakes.

I really struggled between three and four stars for this newly opened restaurant. It's generally what you want in a pancake house: a huge menu (though no make-your-own omelette, for some reason), bottomless coffee and decent prices, though they could be a little cheaper. Even though my meal wasn't spectacular, this is why I went with four stars, especially keeping in mind that they opened less than a week ago. It was pretty crowded for 11am on a Monday morning. I got a spinach and feta omelette that was very good, and the cook didn't skimp on the feta. Unfortunately, the hashbrowns were mediocre and cold, but my boyfriend's were warm and much better looking-- I think I got the end of a batch. Plus, the best part: I could get toast OR pancakes with an omelette and hashbrowns. Salty and sweet, so much carb, so much goodness. And the pancakes were yummy. Glad to have another diner-style breakfast place in the area. One note: There is an item on the menu called "Hipster Hash." Yes, it is a direct rip-off of the Fleetwood's Hippie Hash, but makes no sense. Points off for that.

My husband and I had the pleasure of eating here for the first time this past Sunday. Even though it was busy, we got right in. The menu was very unique and had a great variety. When I reviewed this on Fat Freddy Says, I was asked to come back and try again. I did. Big mistake. 30 minutes for hash/2 eggs. They forgot the bread. The hash was cold. Charged extra for an english muffin that arrived after I had already said no thanks to the meal. Full Fat Freddy review at fatfreddysays.com

Nick's is just okay. My husband and I went there after reading reviews on Yelp thinking that it would be better. We had a fifteen minute wait for the two of us, which we expected and is okay. The parking situation is a mess. There is a small amount of parking available around the restaurant, but if you aren't lucky to nab a spot or have someone to stand in a spot to save it for you, you must take your chances with your car getting towed by parking at the business next door! The pancakes are amazing!! But the rest of the menu is meh. My husband ordered a spicy skillet sort of meal. It didn't come with nearly enough cheese. I ordered the banana pancakes which are described on the menu as being filled with bananas and then topped with powdered sugar. My pancakes arrived as three of their regular pancakes with a sliced banana laying on top and no powdered sugar. The price for three pancakes is $5.99. The banana pancakes $7.29. I got charged $1.30 for someone to put a sliced banana on top of my pancakes. Disappointing. I also noticed that almost all of their entrees don't come with any sort of meat side (only a couple of the egg options do). A side of bacon is $3.29!!! After breakfast we ran to the grocery store and bought an entire lb of bacon for just over that price. I don't know how big their "side" of bacon is, but I'm hoping it is close to an entire package for that price. Nick's is an okay option to check out, but I don't think that we will be returning anytime soon. And if we do, I'll be bringing my own banana and a lb of bacon. :)

This restaurant used to be acceptable but it has moved on to the awful category. Service is from poor to unpleasant. Food comes burned and cold even though we are taking about toast and eggs. The corned beef hash could have been their saving grace except that it was cold and burned. We promised each other not to return. Notice, if you wish to try it anyway, how dirty the restaurant is and how cluttered with garbage its surroundings are. The coffee tastes like colored water. We had to give it some star..we tried to give it one...and that is generous.

We decided to brave the crowds and try out NOHP this past Sunday. We arrived to an almost-full parking lot and there was a 10-minute wait for a table. We were eventually seated, and our server popped right on over to see if we needed drinks. Our various coffees, juice and sundry arrived in short order. Food: I ordered a chorizo omelette with onion, peppers, tomato, cheddar and egg-whites instead of regular eggs (gotta cut the cals/cholesterol where you can!...hehe) My husband ordered corned-beef hash and the cinnamon raisin french toast. Mom-in-law got a western omelette. Verdict: Service was good, restaurant was extremely crowded but not too noisy, and the booth was comfortable. I felt sorry for some of the folks who were waiting when we got seated, and were still waiting for a table when we left - so weekends are rather crazy. Food was good, I liked my omlette - it wasn't rubbery which can be difficult with eggwhites, toast was cold for some reason, but the hashed potatoes were actually crisp and perfect (almost unheard of, so I forgave the cold toast). I snuck a bite of my Husband's F.Toast and it was good - nice and thick, buttery, not too cinnamony. Mom-in-law hoovered her omlette down so quickly I didn't have a chance to try it, but she liked everything. All in all, a good all-around breakfast place. About the same prices as the other Nick's-Owned businesses in town. When we're in the mood for diner-esque breakfast and aren't in the mood for a Coney's, we'll visit again.

Great corner beef hash skillet. Order your eggs over medium to avoid being under cooked. Expect to wait 15 minutes for a table. Great selection of specialty pancakes and French toast.

I really enjoy Nicks. It looks like most of the older reviews issues were fixed. The coffee was fine, the server was very nice and friendly. She even brought out extra plates when she heard us talk about sharing dishes! The food has always been good. Omelets, pancakes, even the French toast I cannot say one bad thing about. I look forward to going back again and again.

Not impressed... I don't think I'll be going back. What I ordered was highly recommended by the server (peach cobbler French toast) and honestly it was bland with just some canned peaches thrown over it. Nothing special at all.

I went here with my kids for breakfast this morning. My son checked online and thought they opened at 7am. We got there and there was already 10-12 cars at 7:10am, so I figured that was a good sign. We went in and the wait staff was friendly. We got drinks relatively quickly, too. Ordered right away, with one change - no cheese on the omelet. Although I did not see any other meals coming out, about 20 minutes later our breakfast came out. The omelet had cheese = bad. However, there was only about a tablespoon of cheese for the 3 egg omelet and it was all sprinkled on top (feta maybe) so it was relatively easy to remove. The waitress offered to send it back but I declined. One thing I've learned is you never send food back... Food was OK, nothing to write to Yelp about. Prices indicate the place is trying to bill itself as upscale. The three breakfasts with two drinks cost us over $30 with tip. Overall, wait staff was pleasant, food was meh, prices a little on the high side for eggs and pancakes. I'll likely give them another try, just in case it was just one marginal experience, but I'm not going to drop my favorite breakfast places for this one.

Pretty good food and the waitress was good, but it was a bit expensive.

First visit today. Blueberry pancakes not the best. 2.5 out 5. Need more berries. No butter but some kind of yellow fake fat in a cup. "Real Maple Syrup" tasted watered down, really bland. Bacon 2 out of 5. Coffee 2 out of 5 Had to flag down some random staff for more coffee after waitperson never came back. All for the small fee of $12.60 (tip included) . Disappointed.

Here's the thing: If you're looking for some kind of classy brunch where the whipped cream does not come out of a can, this is just not going to be your place. If, on the other hand, you are okay with -- and maybe even a fan of -- regular old diners, then Nick's is just fine. It's a very comfortable place with good, abundant, and even moderately creative breakfast food. Is it going to knock your socks off? No. But if you're reasonably laid-back about your pancakes and omelettes, you'll like it -- and leave stuffed.

i have to say, i'm really surprised at all the bad reviews. i've been to nick's almost a dozen times since they opened - they're super close to my home and have a parking lot, which is a big plus. i've been on weekdays and weekends, and even when there have been 20 people in front of me waiting, i don't think its ever taken me more than 20 minutes to get seated. i've never been disappointed with the food or the service, and neither has anyone else i've been with. the prices are decent and the menu is huge, so everyone can find something to please them. if you're looking for gourmet brunch, go down to main street and pay $12 for a crepe. but if you're willing to accept that this is just your typical breakfast place, then you'll find it very satisfactory. i recommend the west virginia omelet with multigrain toast. its by far the best omelet i've ever had.
